General

What is Resembly?

Resembly is an iOS application that uses generative AI to place you (and up to three other people) into pre-made stylized scenes. You pick a scene from an in-app catalog, attach one to four personal photos as "subjects", and the AI produces a new image in which the subjects appear inside that scene.

The application is focused on this single workflow and is not a general-purpose photo editor.

Is this a photo editor?

No.

Resembly does not paint, mask, retouch, recolor or otherwise modify an existing photo. It generates a new image based on a pre-made scene and the photos you submit as subjects.

Who is it for?

Anyone who wants a high-quality, stylized portrait quickly:

Resembly is intended for adults; you must be at least 17 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use it.

How It Works

How does a generation work?

  1. Open the application and browse the in-app catalog of scenes.
  2. Pick a scene you like.
  3. Attach one to four subject photos. For each photo, you frame the face with a circular indicator in a quick in-app step.
  4. Tap generate. The AI produces a new image with your subjects placed inside the chosen scene.
  5. Compare the result with the source, save it to your device, or share it.

What is the face-crop step, and is it required?

Yes, it is required for every subject photo.

When you add a photo as a subject, the application asks you to drag a circular indicator around the face. This is a manual layout step, not face recognition: it tells the AI where the face is in the photo, so the generation can use it correctly.

Resembly does not run face recognition, face matching or identity verification on these photos.

How long does a generation take?

Generation time can range from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on current server load and on the chosen scene. Generations run on our servers, so they continue even if you switch apps or temporarily lose your internet connection — when you return, the application will pick up the result automatically.

An active internet connection is required to start a generation and to download the result.

Can I redo a result?

Yes. You can run the same combination of scene and subjects again to get a different result, or replace any subject and rerun. Each successful generation consumes credits as described below.

What types of photos work best as subjects?

You get the best results when each subject photo:

Very small, partially obscured, side-profile or heavily filtered faces tend to produce weaker likeness in the generated image.

Catalog Scenes

Can I add my own scenes?

No. Resembly works only with scenes curated by us and shown in the in-app catalog. This focus lets us tune each scene so that generations look consistent and on-style across different face types and lighting conditions. We add new scenes over time and may rotate out scenes that don't perform well.

Credits, Free Access and Subscriptions

How does access to generations work?

Each generation consumes a fixed amount of credits. Credits come from two sources:

  1. Complimentary credits we may grant to new users (see below).
  2. Credits granted by an active weekly subscription.

The exact credit cost of a generation, the size of any complimentary pool and the credits included in each subscription plan are shown in the application.

Are there free generations?

We may, at our discretion, grant a limited amount of complimentary credits to some new users so they can evaluate the Service. This is not a guaranteed part of the offer, may differ between users and may change over time.

Results produced from complimentary credits include a Resembly watermark on the output image. Once you start consuming credits from a paid subscription, subsequent generations are delivered without the watermark.

Why a subscription model?

Generative AI runs on expensive infrastructure and produces real costs on every successful generation. A subscription lets us:

Why weekly instead of monthly?

Weekly billing keeps the up-front commitment low and matches how most people actually use the application — in short bursts when they need a new picture. You can cancel anytime; the next weekly cycle will not be charged.

What subscription plans are there?

Resembly offers several weekly auto-renewable subscription tiers through Apple In-App Purchase. The names of the tiers, the number of credits each plan grants per week and the prices are shown in the App Store purchase dialog and inside the application before purchase. The set of tiers and their parameters may change over time.

How do credits work with a subscription?

What happens if I run out of credits?

You have two options:

Billing, Cancellation and Refunds

Who handles payments?

All payments and subscriptions are processed exclusively by Apple In-App Purchase. Apple is the merchant of record and manages billing, renewals and refunds. We never see your card number, billing address or Apple ID password.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, go to:

Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions → Resembly → Cancel Subscription.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep your remaining credits until the cycle ends, but no new cycle is charged. Any credits not used by the end of that cycle do not carry over and are not refunded.

How do I change plan?

In the same Subscriptions screen, choose another Resembly plan. Apple's proration rules apply.

How do I restore purchases on a new device?

Sign in to the new device with the same Apple ID, open Resembly, and use Restore Purchases. Your active subscription will be recognized. Restoring purchases does not top up or reset credits; the current weekly cycle continues to apply.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled exclusively by Apple under Apple's refund policies. Resembly does not have access to Apple's billing system and cannot issue refunds directly. You can request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Privacy and Safety

Are my subject photos stored on your servers?

Only for a short time, and only to perform the generation you requested.

Your photos and the generated result are kept just long enough to deliver the result and any limited automatic retries. After that, they are automatically removed by storage lifecycle rules. We do not maintain a long-term archive of your subject photos or generated images.

Are my photos used to train AI models?

No.

Subject photos and generated images are used only to produce the result you requested. They are not used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any AI model, and they are not shared with model providers for training.

Does Resembly do face recognition?

No.

The circular face crop you draw on each subject is a manual layout step — it tells the AI where the face is in the photo, not who the person is. The application does not match faces against other photos, does not identify people in your library, and does not build a face database.

Does the application track me or show ads?

No.

Resembly does not show ads. It does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework, does not request access to the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not sell or share personal information with advertisers.

For details, see our Privacy Policy.

Why was my request rejected?

All generation requests pass through automated content moderation before and during AI processing. Moderation may reject a request that appears to involve, for example:

Rejected requests are not processed, are not retained, and do not consume credits. A rejection is an automated decision and does not necessarily imply wrongdoing on your part. You can submit different content and try again.

If you believe a rejection was a mistake, you can request human review by contacting [email protected] and describing the request (approximate time and type of content).

Whose photos can I upload as subjects?

Only photos for which you have all necessary rights and consents:

You are responsible for what you submit. See the Terms of Service for the full Acceptable Use list.

Quality and Results

Why does the result sometimes look imperfect?

Generative AI is probabilistic — even with identical inputs, two runs will not produce the same image. Result quality and likeness depend on:

Trying a different subject photo or a different scene usually improves the result.

Why does my first free result have a watermark?

Generations produced from complimentary credits include a Resembly watermark on the output image. After you start consuming credits from a paid subscription, all subsequent generations are delivered without the watermark. Images you already produced with a watermark keep that watermark — to get a clean version, run a new generation while your subscription is active.

Can I use the generated images commercially?

Yes, provided that:

You are responsible for any use of generated images outside of the application.

Compatibility and Support

What devices are supported?

Resembly runs on recent versions of iOS on iPhone. Exact compatibility is shown on the App Store listing.

What languages are supported?

The application is localized into several languages and follows your iOS system language when supported. The exact list is shown on the App Store listing and is updated over time.

What photo formats can I upload as subjects?

The application uses the standard iOS photo picker and camera, so any format your device's Photos library supports (typically JPEG, PNG and HEIC) can be used. The application automatically prepares the photo for upload after the face-crop step.

How do I delete my data?

Because Resembly does not maintain user accounts, most of the data we hold is short-lived and deleted automatically — see the Privacy Policy for details on retention. For records associated with your device or your subscription, you can send a deletion request to [email protected]. We may ask for a recent Apple receipt or a screenshot of the in-app settings screen showing your device identifier to verify the request.

How do I contact support?

We aim to respond within a few business days.
